The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) prepares itself in crafting the Green Jobs Human Resource Development (HRD) plan based on the 2012 Green Jobs Mapping report by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO).

Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) participated in the recently concluded Formal Launch and Inception Workshop of the International Labor Organization-European Union (ILO-EU) Project on Strengthening the Impact of Trade on Employment in the Philippines (STRENGTHEN) last October 6-7 at the Kachina Room of Century Park Hotel in Manila.

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) undertakes a research titled “A Survey on the Employment of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Philippines” seeking productive employment for the said vulnerable group.

The Institute of Labor Studies (ILS) research titled “Gap Analysis of ILO Convention No. 81 (Labour Inspection),” authored by ILS researcher Joyce Anne S. Lumactud, has recommended addressing gaps in the country’s existing labor inspection system in order to fulfill the requirements under the International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention No. 81 on Labor Inspection, known as the international standard for labor inspection in industrial and commercial establishments.

The role of Filipino youth in the workforce is foreseen to be vital in the next few years. The increasing number of youth in the labor force is envisioned to produce a new generation of workers who possess advanced skills such as IT, research, among others, that are highly needed by employers due to advances in technology. Further, technological advances are expected to increase demand for highly-skilled workers across age group, not just only on the youth group.

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) hosted the 3rd Inter–Agency Committee on Research and Statistical Matters (IAC-RSM), held on September 30, from 1 PM to 5 PM at the Local Governance and Learning Center (LGLC), DOLE Building, Intramuros, Manila.

As the Secretariat of the IAC-RSM, the Institute helms the quarterly meeting of the IAC-RSM members, which serves as the venue for all member agencies to provide updates on their research agenda for the year.

As part of its advocacy in promoting the importance and career opportunities of policy research for students, the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) undertakes improvements in its on-the-job training (OJT) activities to attain a more results-oriented training of practicumers.

The ILS Internship Program, or INTERNi, is the Institute’s response to the requests by higher educational institutions (HEIs) that require their graduating students to undergo immersion in an actual work setting.

The Institute for Labor (ILS) sent three of its employees to the training on “ISO-compliant Records Management Processes and Control” organized by Philippine Records Management Association, Inc. (PRMAI) held in De Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City last 13-15 September 2016.

The Institute for Labor Studies undertakes a research titled “A Typology of Returning OFWs” in partnership with the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO)

The aim of this research is to generate data on returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), which includes potential returning OFWs and actual returnees based on their: (1) migration experiences; (2) motivation to return; and (3) accumulated resources (financial capital, human capital and social capital). The generated data will be used in the creation of a typology of returning OFWs which will form the basis of government intervention either in the form of assistance or developmental initiatives.
