ILS organizes 1st Strategic Planning session for DOLE IAC-RSM

Manila – The Interagency Committee for Research and Statistical Matters recently held its 1st Strategic Planning Session last November 24-25 at the Bayleaf Hotel, in Intramuros, Manila.

The two-day event was organized by the Committee Secretariat, the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) led by its OIC-Executive Director Ma. Celeste M. Valderrama and ILS’ Advocacy and Publications Division (APD).

ILS participates in World Day Against Child Labor

The Institute for Labor Studies joined the celebration of World Day Against Child Labor (WDACL) last 8 November 2016 at St. Scholastica’s College, Manila. With a local theme “Walang Batang Naaabuso sa Paggawa ng Produkto,” the event underscored the importance of ending child labor in the supply chains.

ILS joins 18-day campaign to End Violence Against Women

The Institute for Labor Studies joined the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) kick-off activity last 25 November 2016 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City, Manila. With the theme, “VAW-free community starts with me,” around 3,000 women’s rights advocates from different government and private organizations symbolically waved their orange handkerchiefs to counter all forms of gender-based violence.

ILS produces research on Portability of Social Security Benefits

Manila – ILS researcher Miraluna S. Tacadao completes her paper titled, “Portability of Social Security Benefits in the APEC Region: An Examination of Social Security Agreements,” which will be presented in the DOLE Research Conference this December.

ILS research looks deeper into Filipino overseas migration

Manila – Institute for Labor Studies researcher Maria Isabel D. Artajo’s paper titled “‘Should I stay or should I go too?: Understanding the employment aspirations and migration trajectories of left-behind children in the Philippines,” probed into the dynamics why despite high risks and uncertainties, many Filipinos still seek overseas employment.

The research tackled how prevalent overseas migration is in the Philippines, and how such a trend has lasted more than four decades by looking into globalization and its corresponding macro-processes.

ILS named “Most Outstanding Accounting Office” for the second year

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) is recognized anew by the Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines (AGAP) as one of the country’s “Most Outstanding Accounting Offices” during the AGAP Convention Seminar at the Bohol Tropics Resort in Tagbilaran City, on October 19, 2016.
