The Institute for Labor Studies has set to work on producing legislative analytics on the DOLE Priority Legislative Agenda as part of its mandate to provide efficient and effective research support to the Department.

On August 9, 2017, ILS employees planted five hundred (500) saplings of sweet tamarind, custard apple and salamander (bignay) saplings at the Mt. Arayat National Park with assistance from Mr. Ray Nunez of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Region III.

Headed by OIC-Executive Director Atty. Mary Grace L. Riguer, the said undertaking has become part of the Institute’s Green Our DOLE Program (GODP) initiatives.

Manila, Philippines – Former Bureau of Workers with Special Conditions Director Ahmma Charisma Lobrin-Satumba is named as the new Acting Executive Director of the Institute for Labor Studies.

With her assumption as the Acting Executive Director, Atty. Mary Grace L. Riguer will resume her post as the Deputy Executive Director III.

Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) researches titled, “A Study on Mine Safety and Working Conditions in the Metallic and Non-Metallic Small-Scale Mining Sector in the Philippines,” and “An In-depth Study on Mine Safety and Working Conditions in Large Scale Mining Sector in the Philippines,” are on its final leg of research field work and are slated to be completed by the first week of September this year.

Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) hosted the recently concluded Follow-up Training on Assessing and Addressing the Effects of Trade on Employment Workshop of the International Labor Organization-European Union (ILO-EU) Project on Strengthening the Impact of Trade on Employment in the Philippines (STRENGTHEN) last August 24-25 at the iLearn Conference Room of the ILS in Intramuros, Manila.

Manila – Students that have been under the Department of Labor and Employment’s Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) have increased their likelihood of currently working by 3.9% compared to those not chosen to receive the said program.

This was among the key findings during the presentation of results of the Impact Evaluation for the SPES Program held last August 18 at the Bayleaf Hotel in Intramuros, Manila hosted by the Institute for Labor Studies as the lead of the DOLE-Technical Working Group (DOLE-TWG).

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) participated in the 2017 Public Sector HR Symposium organized by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) held on 4-6 July 2017 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City.

With the theme, “Shaping Change,” the event highlighted global trends and best practices on human resource (HR) management and organization development.

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) participated in the capacity building forum organized by the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC) for researchers involved in its study on People with Disabilities (PWD) last July 13 at the ECC Conference Room, ECC Building in Makati City.

Manila, Philippines – In celebration of the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) 30^th founding anniversary, the “Luna Lecture Series” and Design Thinking Olympics were formally launched last July 25 at the iLearn Conference Room, DOLE, Intramuros, Manila.

Designed as a forum event, the “Luna Lecture Series,” will be conducted in partnership with various universities and colleges around the country.
