ILS honors 44-year service retiree with a tribute

Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) honored its 44-year old service retiree with an online tribute and send off via Zoom on December 23.

Ms. Presentacion C. Torres, Labor and Employment Officer (LEO) II of the Advocacy and Publications Division, has reached her compulsory retirement last November 23. She previously worked for the Institute of Labor and Manpower Studies (ILMS), from which ILS traced its roots prior to its creation in July 25, 1987 through Executive Order No. 251 issued by then President Corazon C. Aquino.

ILS completes 2020 Internal Audit

Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) completed its 2020 Internal Audit for the 2nd Semester conducted from December 21 -22 with the owners of 19 enrolled process areas.

This semester’s Internal Audit aims to assess the Institute’s continuing conformance and compliance to the ISO 9001:2015 and its established Quality Management System (QMS), and assist the organization in identifying potential areas for improvement. Being a self-check mechanism for the Institute, the audit also ensures that ILS meets or exceeds its client’s requirements.

ILS’ 9th webinar calls to ratify ILO Convention 190 to ensure a world of work free from violence and harassment

Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) continues to advocate for international and local policies that zero in on a violence and harassment free workspace. This concern was tackled during the 9th ILS Revive and Thrive webinar titled, “More than rhetoric: Policy directions toward a world of work free from violence and harassment,” which was streamed live via the official ILS Facebook page last November 19.

ILS advocates to fight Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children via 8th webinar

Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies successfully hosted the eighth edition of its Revive &Thrive COVID-19 Webinar Series with a panel of distinguished guests and panelists that collectively came together to advocate for child labor and rights. The event was streamed live via the official ILS Facebook page and published real time via StreamYard last November 6.

Titled “#KeepKidsSafe: Advancing Efforts to Fight Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), the webinar was formally opened by Executive Director Ahmma Charisma Lobrin-Satumba who delivered the opening remarks for the program.

ILS Workers Welfare Research Division lines up researches enriching workers’ rights

Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies’ (ILS) Workers Welfare Research Division has three on going researches that will be released by year end highlighting three pressing issues concerning Filipino workers across the nation.

These topics include policy papers on Basic Income Guarantee (BIG), mental health, and ILO Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No. 190).

ILS researchers in ASEAN Forum on Green Jobs as panelist and moderator

Manila – Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) researchers Bernard Paul M. Mangulabnan and John Emmanuel V. Villanueva were part of the distinguished panelists and moderators in the recently-concluded ASEAN Inter-Ministerial Forum on the Implementation of the ASEAN Declaration on Promoting Green Jobs for Equity and Inclusive Growth in ASEAN Community, which was held online last October 7-9.

The Institute for Labor Studies’ (ILS) Acting Deputy Executive Director (DED) Patrick Patriwirawan, Jr, reiterated teleworking safety nets as one of the discussants during the webinar titled “Rethinking Work Arrangements: Telework Potential in the Philippines” organized by the Asian Institute of Management Rizalino S. Navarro Policy Center for Competitiveness (AIM RSN-PCC), in partnership with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Philippines Office, held on October 21.
