ILS Organizes the First Philippine Employment Projections Modelling workshop

The Institute for Labor Studies organized a workshop on Philippine Employment Projections Modelling from July 27 to 31 for the technical staff of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), with technical and funding support from the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Technical staff of DOLE underwent an intensive training-workshop in data generation, using STATA, a statistical software. The workshop is a continuation of a project, which started in 2010 as an effort to form the basis for the formulation of employment creation targets as reflected in the Philippine Labor and Employment Plan (LEP) 2011-2016.

ILS, DOLE Technical Staff Prepare for Employment Projections Initiative with Statistics analysis training

On June 22-23, 2015, technical staff of the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) and other offices and attached agencies of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) participated in a training on statistical analysis using Stata. The training is in preparation for the updating of the Philippine Employment Projections Model (PEPM), in partnership with the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

DOLE Asec. Tango Reiterates Quality Work during ILS-hosted Flag Ceremony

The Institute for Labor Studies hosted the Department of Labor and Employment’s flag raising ceremony last June 15, 2015 at the Labor Governance Learning Center in Intramuros, Manila. The event was attended by DOLE Assistant Secretary Ma. Gloria Tango and key officials, with ILS Executive Director Mary Grace Riguer.

DOLE IAC-RSM Research Staff Take first Step to Strategic Policy Research

Members of the DOLE Inter-Agency Committee on Research and Statistical Matters (IAC-RSM) underwent a seminar on “Linking Research to Labor and Employment Policy Development and Innovation” last June 25-26, 2015 at The Bayleaf Hotel in Intramuros, Manila.

Organized by the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS), the workshop was a two-day training designed to assist the agencies in drafting their research papers, and is the first leg of a series of capacity-building activities of the committee.

It was a question directed at the staff of the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) as they started to undergo a brief learning session on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) on May 25, 2015.

As though they were candidates in a pageant anticipating the nerve-wracking Q&A portion, some answered “family,” “men,” “R…,” “women with brains,” “Ian Veneracion” and “myself,” but mostly with little hint yet as to why the question had been asked in the first place.

ILS Execs Join PH Delegation to APEC Meeting

Executive Director Mary Grace Riguer and Deputy Executive Director Stephanie Tabladillo of the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) joined the Philippine delegation to the 37th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Human Resources Development Working Group (HRDWG) Meeting held in Boracay, Aklan on May 14 to 17, 2015.

The Philippines plays host to this year’s APEC meetings which will culminate in the Leaders’ Summit in November. As host, the Philippines adopted the theme, “Building Inclusive Economies, Building A Better World.”

ILS participates in preparatory meeting for APEC policy dialogue on human capacity building

Tabladillo, participated in the preparatory meeting for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) High Level Policy Dialogue on Human Capacity Building (HLPD-HCB) held in Subic Freeport Zone from February 02 to 04 as a lead up to the main event on 06-07 May 2015 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

ILS to Hold Workshop on Research Paper Organization for IAC-RSM Members

The Institute for Labor Studies is organizing a “Seminar-Workshop on the Practice of Research: Drafting the Introduction Part of Labor and Employment Research” for the members of the Inter-Agency Committee on Research and Statistical Matters (IAC-RSM) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). The seminar will be held on May 22, 2015.

National Women’s Month: ILS, POEA Conducts Joint forum on Women Migrant Workers

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) jointly conducted on March 31, 2015 a forum on women migrant workers, featuring studies from ILS researchers and a technical consultant from United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).

ILS Facilitates Tripartite workshops for DOLE 2014 LEP Report

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) facilitated a series of tripartite validation workshops on April 7-10, 2015, in line with the monitoring of accomplishment of targets under the Philippine Labor and Employment Plan (LEP) 2011-2016: Progress Report 2014.

The technical research divisions and the publications division of ILS facilitated the workshops dealing with the five pillars of the LEP, namely Employment, Social Dialogue, Social Protection, Rights at Work, and Sustaining Outcomes.
