Portable Social Protection in the Region Sought in APEC Seminar in Taiwan

“Why should the portability of social security benefits for mobile workers be pursued within the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation region?”

This was the key question raised by the Institute of Labor Studies (ILS) OIC-Executive Director Mary Grace Riguer during the “Seminar on Facilitating Human Resource Mobility by Enhancing Social Protection” held at the Howard Civil Service International House in Taipei, Chinese Taipei on 31 August-1 September 2015.

ILS Employees Join Freedom Run

Employees of the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) joined the “Freedom Run,” a 3K/10K fun run that was also a call to “freedom from corruption,” held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex, Pasay City last September 27, 2015.

The ILS delegation was headed by Camilo Franco Cabusas of the Finance and Administrative Division, and Patrick Patriwirawan, OIC-Chief of the Labor and Social Relations Research Division.

ILS Spearheads Research on ILO Fishing Convention

The Institute for Labor Studies recently concluded its workshop series validating the results of the survey on the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 188.

 

The workshops were held in National Capital Region for Luzon, Iloilo City for Visayas, and General Santos City for Mindanao. .

ILS Colleagues Participate in ILO Summer School in Turin

Three research colleagues of the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) participated in a summer school course on labor market analysis in Turin, Italy, on August 3-7, 2015, with other public policy and academic professionals from different countries.

ILS Participates in Metro-Wide Earthquake Drill

Employees of the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) along with personnel from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) participated in the biggest earthquake drill in Metro Manila.

 

Dubbed “Metro Manila Shakedrill” or #MMshakedrill on social media, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), with multi-sector cooperation from schools, businesses, government agencies, and religious organizations held the earthquake drill last July 30, 2015.

ILS Boosts Emergency Awareness for the National Disaster Consciousness Month

In connection with the 2015 National Disaster Consciousness Month, the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) conducted an emergency awareness video presentation last June 29, 2015 at the ILS Conference Room.

 

In accordance with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s theme “Pamilya at Pamayanang Handa, Katuwang sa Pag-Unlad ng Bansa,” ILS kicks off the coming month of July by screening informative videos highlighting the importance of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management as provided by Republic Act 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Reduction and Management Act of 2010.

DOLE IAC-RSM Moves to Second Leg of Capacity Building Series with CSPro 4.1 Training

The Inter-Agency Committee on Research and Statistical Matters (IAC-RSM) proceeded with the second leg of a series of capacity-building activities for the technical staff of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on July 16, 2015.

More than 20 DOLE staff dealing with research and statistical matters participated in the training on statistical data generation and formatting, which was organized by the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS).
