ILS constitutes Family Welfare Program Committee

In compliance with DOLE AO No. 362-16 promoting Family Welfare Program within the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) constitutes its own ILS Welfare Program Committee (ILS WelPCom) through AO No. 90, s. 2016 issued by OIC-Executive Director Ma. Celeste M. Valderrama.

ILS Holds First Round Table Discussion on Skills and Compensation Survey for the Mining Industry

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) conducted a round table discussion (RTD) for the presentation and exchange of views on its research proposal titled “The Skills and Compensation Survey for Mining and Other Mineral Extraction Industry” held on 6 May 2016 at the Learning Room 4, Labor Governance Learning Center, DOLE Executive Building, Intramuros, Manila. The said research is one of the ILS policy researches for 2016.

ILS In TWG Meeting On K-12

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) attended the Technical Working Group (TWG) meeting organized by the DOLE -Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) to discuss the merging issues from the conduct of the K to 12 DOLE-AMP (Adjustment Measures Program) Orientation series and recommend appropriate actions to address possible job displacements. The meeting was held on 25 May 2016 at the BLE Conference Room, 6th Flr. BF Condominium, Solana St. cor. Soriano Ave., Intramuros, Manila.

ILS In Employers’ Sectoral Consultation Meeting

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) participates in the Decent Work Country Diagnostics (DWCD) Inception-cum-Capacity Building Workshop organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on 11-12 May 2016 at the Manila Pavilion Hotel.

PH labor market efficiency improves

In the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2016, the Philippines is ranked 42nd among 61 countries, a one-notch fall from its 2015 ranking. While the country’s competitiveness record has been remarkably strong in the annual GCRs represented by a broad leap of 33 notches up in the overall rankings since 2010, recent findings in the WCYs over the same period have pointed to a rather relatively modest and sometimes erratic performance. WCY 2013 placed the Philippines 38th from 43 the previous year, only to fall to 42nd the next year. In 2015, the ranking slightly improved by one notch, but as earlier mentioned, it reverted to 42nd again in overall performance.

ILS Rejoices Over Approval of “Green Jobs” Law

On April 29, 2016, President Benigno Aquino III signed Republic Act 10771, or the “Philippine Green Jobs Act of 2016”, which shall apply to establishments engaged in the production, manufacturing, processing, repacking, assembly, or sale of goods and/or services, including service-oriented enterprises.

ILS Commits to Child Labor Knowledge Sharing

Baguio, PH – ILS participated in the Batang Malaya Communication and Campaign Planning Workshop conducted by the DOLE Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) with support from the ILO last May 11-14, 2016 at the Baguio Country Club in Baguio City

The workshop aimed to review and gather additional input to support the initial output from the Child Labor Strategic Planning session that was organized in April.
