Manila – Institute for Labor Studies Acting Chief for the Labor and Social Relations Research Division Ms. Miraluna S. Tacadao successfully completed the International Training Programme on “Labor and Employment Relations in a Global Economy” from November 4 – 22^nd at the V.V. Giri National Labour Institute in Noida, India.

Manila – Institute for Labor Studies Executive Director Charisma Lobrin-Satumba participated in the “Global Social Protection Week: Achieving SDG 1.3 and Universal Social Protection in the Context of the Future of Work” organized by the International Labour Organization n Geneva, Switzerland from 25-28 November 2019.

Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies’ Advocacy event titled, “#TrabahongTrending: The Future of Work from the Millennials’ Perspective,” was recently highlighted in UNTV’s Good Morning Kuya show during its’ October 28 episode.

In UNTV’s interview, ILS Director Ahmma Charisma Lobrin-Satumba said: “Since we are already in the 4th Industrial Revolution, it is high time that we increase the technical knowledge of our students. It is also very important that we focus on what we call ‘soft skills’ which include communication, creativity, and complex problem-solving skills since a lot of jobs in the future are headed towards automation and a lot of employers now focus on hiring based on ‘soft skills’.”

Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies successfully followed up its advocacy event titled, “#TrabahongTrending:  The Future of Work from the Millennials’ Perspective” at the College of Arts and Letters Audio Visual Room of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines last November 13.

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) in partnership with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) held a forum titled “Stepping into the Platform: How the Gig Economy changes the way we work” to learn more about the emerging platform work or app-based work at Commune, Makati City last October 11.

As defined by the European Foundation, platform work is an employment form in which organizations or individuals use an online platform to access other organizations or individuals to solve specific problems or to provide specific services in exchange for payment.

Manila – Institute for Labor Studies researcher Bernard Paul M. Mangulabnan represented the Philippines in the recently concluded ASEAN+3 Workshop on the Development of the Senior Labor Officials Meeting +3 (SLOM+3) Work Plan. The ASEAN meet was held last October 16 in Ha Long City, Vietnam.

The meet was attended by representatives from Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Republic of Korea (ROK), Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam. Representatives from ASEAN Secretariat were also in attendance.

Manila – ILS Executive Director Ahmma Charisma-Lobrin Satumba tackled the “Future Of Work” during the first UNSW ASEAN Conference last October 12 at the Leighton Hall, John Niland Scientia Building, UNSW in Sydney, Australia.

Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies organized its very first advocacy engagement with the academe titled, “#TrabahongTrending: The Future of Work from the Millennials’ Perspective” at the Bukod Tanging Bulwagan of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) last October 25.

ILS Executive Director Ahmma Charisma Lobrin-Satumba delivered the opening remarks for the event while PLM OIC- Dean Cecil V. Sabordo gave a message of support on behalf of the university.

Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) underwent an on-site assessment for its compliance with Program to Institutionalize Meritocracy and Excellence in Human Resource Management (PRIME-HRM) from October 21-25.

The Assessment Team from the Civil Service Commission-National Capital Region (CSC-NCR) was composed of Director Claudia A. Tan, Director Cecilia C. Villafuerte and Supervising HRS Ferlita A. Guillermo.

Manila – Senior Labor and Employment Officer John Emmanuel B. Villanueva from the Institute’s Employment Research Division (ERD) was awarded the Best Presenter award during the 7th International Conference on Asian Studies, which was held last 21-22 October 2019 in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Mr. Villanueva presented his 2018 study titled, “Labor and employment governance in a Federal Philippines: A Policy Delphi-Survey Study.” His participation is in line with the Institute’s continuing effort to broaden the reach of its policy advocacy campaign—not just within the Philippines but also worldwide.
