Labor think tank to discuss required HIV, AIDS program at work

If the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) would have its way, no Filipino worker will ever be ignorant of HIV and AIDS anymore.

Recently released Department Order 102-10 signed by DOLE Secretary Marianito Roque on the “Guidelines for the Implementation of HIV and AIDS Prevention and Control in the Workplace Program,” requires “all private workplaces to have a policy on HIV and AIDS and to implement a workplace program in accordance with Republic Act 8504 and provisions of the Labor Code and other international standards.”

ILS and UN Women join hands for Gender and Migrant Workers Rights

Labor research arm Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) has partnered with UN Women Philippines for its 4th Strategic Conversations series under the theme “Promoting Inclusive Growth for All through Gender Equality, Migrant Rights and Decent Work,” held on February 14-15, 2012 at the Bayleaf Hotel, Intramuros, Manila.

Greening Jobs: More Fun in the Philippines

This was the call of the Institute for Labor Studies, at its recent offering during the Department of Labor and Employment year-round green themed flag ceremonies  tagged “DOLE in Green, Sa Isip, Sa Salita at Sa Gawa.”

In support of its Green Our DOLE Program (GODP), the Department of Labor and Employment has reserved its Monday mornings for green initiatives its offices can emulate. Beginning January of this year, all attached agencies, bureaus, services, and selected regional offices have been directed to host Department flag ceremonies based on this green theme.

3000 students to gather in Cebu for Decent Work

More than 2500 students and career guidance counselors will gather for a campus lecture on Decent Work in Cebu.  The event marks the final stop of the “Balik Tanaw, Bagong Pananaw” Diamond Lecture Series of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) scheduled on October 9 at the Cebu Doctors University Auditorium.

Labor think tank to hold 1st Live Web Conferencing on Labor Diplomacy

Labor Diplomacy goes live online at the Working World Trialogues (WWT) at the Microsoft Headquarters in Makati from May 13-14. The two-day event, organized by labor think tank Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) is the first online gathering of government, civil society leaders and Filipino labor attaches and welfare officers around the world.

New Japanese Labor Attache pays Courtesy Call on ILS

 

The new Japanese Labor Attache to the Philippines, Mr. Masami Hirata, has paid a courtesy call on ILS Executive Director Cynthia Cruz.

At the meeting held at the Executive Director’s Office, Director Cynthia Cruz congratulated Labor Attache Masami Hirata on his appointment, and discussed ideas on further strengthening the partnership between the Institute for Labor Studies and the Office of the Labor Attache of Japan.

A Labor Diplomacy Agenda

The WWT aims to generate ideas and insights on the development and crafting of a labor diplomacy agenda of the Philippines towards protecting millions of OFWs around the globe.

“Labor diplomacy largely means international affairs or foreign policy that promotes the labor and employment goals of the country,” Cruz stressed. “Through labor diplomacy, we can advocate for support to the country’s labor and employment-related goals in international forums. Likewise, we can provide information on economic, social and political issues in the host countries, as well as labor market information, from which basis for policy-making and program development can be drawn.”

DOLE to release Labor and Employment Plan Progress Report

Optimistic progress in 211 commitments seen, priority projects in the pipeline kick-off its second year of implementation

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will soon release a report on the progress of the Philippine Labor and Employment Plan (LEP) 2011-2016. The report is up for adoption by the Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (TIPC), which started assessing the plan in a meeting on the eve of Labor Day at the Bayleaf Hotel in Intramuros, Manila.
