ILS, Department of Agriculture vow to be Rice-ponsible

 

Be rice-ponsible!

This was the pledge of the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) and the Department of Agriculture (DA) during the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) flag-raising ceremony, in support to the National Year of Rice.

The National Year of Rice is part of the Philippine government’s campaign to achieve rice self-sufficiency beginning 2013 through the promotion of responsible rice consumption and productive rice farming.

Saving Heritage Buildings, Creating Jobs, The Green Way

 

Real estate developers are now encouraged to think about protecting unique features of heritage buildings, rather than tearing them down.

This was among the arguments presented at the stakeholders’ forum on the Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence (BERDE) voluntary green building rating system, conducted by the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) and the Philippine Green Building Council (PhilGBC) at the Occupational Safety and Health Center. BERDE is supported by the Department of Energy under the Philippine Energy Efficiency: Efficient Building Initiative (PEE-EBI) Project

Youth Employment headlines DOLE Research Agenda

 

Youth employment research topped the agenda of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) at the DOLE Inter-Agency Committee on Research Matters (DOLE-IAC-RM) Stakeholder Consultations organized by the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) in January.

With the theme, “The Future of Work: Research Initiatives for 2013,” this year’s stakeholder consultation took a special focus on decent jobs for the youth with the 2013 DOLE focus on youth employment.

DOLE Research Head highlights Green Jobs at Green Report launch

Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) Executive Director Cynthia Cruz lauded Greenpeace for its report, “Green is Gold” that looked at how renewable energy can save money and generate jobs.

“We salute the efforts of Greenpeace in coming up with the first of its kind report on the economic potential of renewable energy – particularly on the generation of jobs. The report will help develop the policy and industry response needed to fuel interest on green jobs,” said Cruz.

New ILSEA officers take oath of office, announce directions for 2013

 

The newly elected officers of the Institute for Labor Studies Employees Association (ILSEA), took their oath of office before ILS Executive Director Cynthia R. Cruz last December 12, 2012.

The Institute for Labor Studies Employees Association (ILSEA) is the accredited labor union of the Institute for Labor Studies.

ILS celebrates 25 years of service

 

In celebration of its 25th year of service, the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) marked the occasion with its Christmas Party-cum-25th Grand Anniversary celebration, dubbed “ILSilver Acoustic Carols” held on December 21, 2012 at the ILS Hall.

“Our year-end party served as a double celebration for ILS. First the occasion marked the annual celebration of the Christmas season and second was to commemorate our 25 years of service, which we marked early this year,” said Executive Director Cynthia R. Cruz of the Institute for Labor Studies.

“Labor of Love” wins at DOLE 79th Sayawit Competition

 

It was the fruit of the labor of love.

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS), National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) reaped the fruits of their hard labor when they won 2nd place for their performance entry “Labor of Love,” at the DOLE SayAwit Competition held at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.

Government bookworms promote reading, “reads-back” for remote libraries

 

In a bid to “read-back” to the community, bookworms of the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) have partnered with Books for a Cause (BFAC) for book donations to libraries in far-flung areas.

“Our employees are bookworms by heart, who have always loved to read since they were kids. We want to share that joy of reading and knowledge to more libraries in the country through the books that we will be sharing,” said ILS Executive Director Cynthia R. Cruz

DOLE holds 1st Research Conference on Decent Work

29The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will hold the First Research Conference on Decent Work at the DOLE Ople Hall in Intramuros on 28 November.

Led by its Inter-Agency Committee on Research Matters, the research conference provides a forum for DOLE’s attached agencies, bureaus and services for the discussion and presentation of research work on key areas of the Labor and Employment Plan 2011-2016.
